Bytedance Product Manager Interview Experience — Phone Screen and a Tough Senior PM Case Round

Phone Screening (~15 minutes)

• Self-introduction
• Asked how my experience matched the role
• Asked about my willingness to relocate
• Asked about salary
• My turn to ask questions

Business Round 1 - Senior PM (~40 minutes)

• Self-introduction
• Asked what I did at Company A
• Dug deep into the projects I worked on at Company A
• Compare and contrast the ecosystem advantages and disadvantages of Company A versus TikTok
• How would I improve the "marketing feel" of TikTok's ad content recommendations
• How to improve the efficiency of content moderation
• How to evaluate the effectiveness of AI on content ecosystem moderation (I wasn't prepared for this one and didn't answer it well — don't bring up things you don't actually know...)
• How to balance monetization of content recommendation against user experience
• ...there were a couple more questions I think, but not many, and I don't remember them well
• Why I'm changing jobs after such a short time
• Career planning and my reasons for coming to the US
• My turn to ask questions (I asked about work details, then asked a dumb question — I won't repeat it here; prepare your questions in advance so you don't ask something dumb)
