Amazon BIE final round interview summary

Round 1:
Visualization: Introduce the dashboard you built, explain which visualizations you used, and explain why you chose them.
Analytical: Suppose you're the manager of a delivery station. In the past you manually assigned packages to delivery drivers, and now you need to build a model that automatically assigns package quantities.

  • What data and methods would you use to optimize the assignment?
  • How would you evaluate whether the new method is better than the old one? One last BQ (Behavioral Question).

Round 2: SQL round
Login data analysis:
Given two tables:
Table 1: user_id, mobile_login
Table 2: user_id, desktop_login
Calculate:

  • the percentage of users who only logged in via mobile
  • the percentage of users who only logged in via desktop
  • the percentage of users who logged in via both mobile and desktop

Employee work hours calculation:
Table 3: employee_id, in, 1/30/8:00; employee_id, out, 1/30/13:00
Calculate each employee's daily work hours.

One BQ.

Round 3:
First question: a Product Market Fit question, using Alexa Shopping as the example.
Second question: how do you root-cause a problem at work?

  • What solutions would you propose?
  • How do you use data to drive decisions and persuade stakeholders? One BQ.

Last two rounds: Behavioral Questions (BQ)
These questions dig deep into your problem-solving ability, including:

  • How did you solve a specific problem? What resistance did you run into?
  • What was the result?
  • Did other people end up adopting your solution? If so, how did you verify it was actually being widely used?

Amazon asks a lot of BQs and goes deep on them — by the last round you might feel like you're running out of stories, so prepare enough examples ahead of time!
