HackerRank Assessment Link Expired: Recovery Steps and Recruiter Email Template
Recover an expired HackerRank invitation with the right recruiter request. Distinguish link expiry from an ended timer and use a concise email template.
If your HackerRank assessment link has expired, reply to the original invitation email and ask the recruiter to extend its expiration date and time. That is the remedy in HackerRank's login-error guidance. Clearing cookies cannot extend a server-side invitation deadline.
First check whether the invitation expired before you started or the timer ended during an attempt.
Identify the problem before asking for a new link

HackerRank distinguishes invitation expiry from an ended attempt. Its extra-time documentation lets authorized employer users add time during a test or after it has ended. This is not an automatic candidate entitlement. Some DevOps and Cloud environments are purged after expiry, so their recovery may require a fresh invitation.
Send this email now
Reply in the original recruiter thread so the role and invitation are attached to the request. Use the subject below if you must start a new thread. Do not claim you opened the link before the deadline unless your timestamps support it.

Could you extend the invitation expiry or confirm the appropriate replacement/recovery step? I can complete the assessment by [specific date and time]. Please confirm the link and deadline I should use.

If you simply missed the deadline, replace the timing explanation with a direct acknowledgment and proposed completion time. A factual short request is more credible than an invented technical failure.
What evidence is worth keeping?
Save the original email, the error text, the time and timezone when it appeared, and whether the timer ever started. For a discrepancy, preserve both the email's deadline and the page's expiry message. This gives recruiting a specific mismatch to investigate.
If screenshots are permitted, crop to the error and exclude questions, code, and personal data. A full invitation URL can contain a candidate-specific token. Use it only in the original recruiter thread or a verified official support request when needed, not in a public forum screenshot.
If recruiting has not replied
For a platform error, use HackerRank Candidate Support and mention the recruiting deadline. Platform support can help diagnose an error; it does not decide whether a company will accept a late assessment.
If the deadline has passed, send the request anyway and state your availability. Neither an error screenshot nor a support ticket guarantees an extension. Avoid repeatedly changing accounts or trying another candidate's invitation; those actions do not resolve the original invitation's state.
When recruiting responds, confirm whether it extended the original invitation or issued a different one. Check the new expiry and setup requirements before beginning. If extra time was added to an existing attempt, follow the administrator's instructions; HackerRank says a refresh is needed to display the updated timer.
